Saiga 9 is a compact and lightweight pistolcaliber semi-automatic carbine based on the Vityaz-SN submachine gun. Thanks to affordable and low-recoiling ammunition it is an ideal training and recreational shooting, suitable for use in most indoor ranges, by almost all shooters.
Saiga 9 carbine uses simple blowback operated action and fires from open bolt. It has AK-type controls and layout, and is equipped with side-folding skeletonized shoulder stock and black plastic furniture. Picatinny rail for red dot sights is integrated into the top cover, and carbine is equipped with adjustable iron sights. Carbine uses detachable box magazines which are either restricted to 10 rounds or have full capacity of 30 rounds. For Russian market, carbine is fitted with automated trigger lock which blocks firing when shoulder stock is folded.
